This typically includes an engine oil and filter change, along with a general check-up of your brakes, tyres, lights, fluids and key components under the bonnet and vehicle. Logbook servicing is more comprehensive. It follows the manufacturer’s recommended schedule – based on time or kilometres travelled – to maintain your car’s warranty. What’s included depends on the make and model, but generally involves more detailed checks and replacements.
Most cars need a logbook service every 6 months or 10,000km, whichever comes first.
Yes! While car dealers may try to make you believe otherwise, you don’t have to take your car back to the dealer for servicing. According to the ACCC, any qualified mechanic can service your car and fill out the log book as long as they’re using quality parts. Going to an independent servicing and repair shop will not and should not affect your car’s warranty.
